Plasma (or glow discharge) polymerization ( 2 ) is a form of polymerization in which the reaction is initiated by a gas discharge generated by plasma sources. Glow discharge, specifically, deals with the creation free electrons that collide with neutral molecules, transforming those neutral molecules into reactive species which then trigger the polymerization. Plasma polymers grow off of substrates, allowing for the formation of polymer films, and have a relatively high proportion of branched or cross-linked chains.
